I Was A Grumpy B#$%h Until I Started Doing This
Morning Chaos is Real!
I can function on little sleep, but let's be honest - I can also be a bit of a grumpy b#$%h in the morning.
I can already feel my wife nodding in agreement as I write this.
As a parent morning times can be extremely stressful.
You have to get yourself ready
- Check lunches are ready
- Shout at your child to hurry up
- Get breakfast
- Shout again at said child to hurry up
- Drink caffeine for the benefit of everyone
- Send said child back upstairs because mismatched socks and those trousers are a crime against fashion
- Load everyone into the car
By the time you've got the kids ready for school and started work, you feel more frazzled than a Starbucks barista on their first day trying to figure out what a vente frapa mocha fappy do dah is.
One way to help move past this and get yourself into your zone is to set your intention for the day.
6 Question Morning Reset
To reset my frazzled brain and actually feel in control of my day, I ask myself these six questions:
1. What do I want to accomplish today?
2. How do I want to feel today?
3. What could stop me being that person today?
4. How can I remove those barriers?
5. Who needs me at my best today?
6. Is there anything else I need to think about?
These questions force you to get clear on what actually matters.
- The first question sets your focus
- The second gets you intentional about how you feel - whether that's energized, calm, or even fired up to tackle something hard.
- The third helps you anticipate roadblocks.
- The fourth, you figure out how to handle them.
- The fifth is a game changer - some days your family needs the best of you. Other days it's your team at work.
- The last one makes sure nothing important slips through the cracks.
Let me know how it goes! Which questions worked best for you?
Cheering you on,
Dan
